Osmond Bell wsa convicted of the manslaughter of Nova Welsh 24.
Her body was found in a utility cupboard at flats in Lighthorne Avenue, Birmingham on 18 August 1981. It was thought that she had been killed three weeks beforehand.
He was arrested 35 years later after advances in DNA testing allowed the police to extract Osmond Bell's DNA from chewing gum that was found on the lock on the cupboard door where she was found.
They had been in a relationship but Nova Welsh had left him. Osmond Bell was at the time also 24-years-old.
